In XP, when I open the root of a drive, an error says "C:\ is not a valid Win32 application".?

If I have "My Computer" open and I double-click on either C:, D:, E:, or F:, I get an error that tells me that the drive is not a valid win32 application. Why is this? I've run Chkdsk several times and it doesn't help. Please help me! It's only the roots of the drives and only when I choose "Open" not "Explore". ???
