9x + 2y + z = 20

z = 20 - 9x - 2y

∫{0→1} ∫{0→2} 20 - 9x - 2y dy dx

= ∫{0→1} [20y - 9xy - y²]{0→2} dx

= ∫{0→1} [20(2) - 9x(2) - 2²] - [20(0) - 9x(0) - 0²] dx

= ∫{0→1} (40 - 18x - 4) - (0 - 0 - 0) dx

= ∫{0→1} 36 - 18x dx

= 9∫{0→1} 4 - 2x dx

= 9[4x - x²]{0→1}

= 9[[4(1) - 1²] - [4(0) - 0²]]

= 9[(4 - 1) - (0 - 0)]

= 9(3)

= 27

The answer is (b).

Apartment: Heater power usage vs A/C power usage?

Does heating a small apartment use much more power than cooling the same apartment with a/c??

I ask because my electric bill from last month was literally double what it was a couple months before, and I can't think of anything we've really done differently - I fear we have a power drain somewhere in the apt but maybe it's just heater usage.

Thanks!!

Apartment: Heater power usage vs A/C power usage?
Well that depends mostly on the climate since both are based on negative feedback systems, i.e. they shut off when the target temperature is reached and turn back on when the temperature strays from the target or target range. So, if you are living in an apartment where the outdoor temperature is typically 10 degrees in the winter and 70 degrees in the summer, your heating bills will be much higher than say in a climate where there is a 50 degree winter temperature and a 100 degree summer temperature. So heating bills will be much higher during the winter months in say, New Hampshire or Minnesota versus the cooling bills in the summer, and vice versa for bills in Florida and Texas.

It also depends on the efficiency of your heating and cooling appliances. That can vary greatly if you have a new AC unit and a very old heating unit.

Problem with Matrix C++?

I'm trying to call a function where I can set up a Matrix. At the start, I set up the function:

void setmatrix(double a[x][y], char b)

{

int i, j;

printf("Enter values for Matrix %c:\n", b);

for (i=0; i%26lt;=x; i++)

{

for (j=0; j%26lt;=y; j++)

{

printf("Row %d, Column %d: ", i+1, j+1);

scanf("%lf", %26amp;a[i][j]);

}

}

Now, I get the user to input the amount of rows and columns which are x and y respectively. My problem is trying to call the function and what to put inside. I tried setmatrix(a[x][y], b). In my main function, I declared integers for x and y, character for b, and double a[3][3] (I needed an initial matrix).

Problem with Matrix C++?
The funny thing is that in certain OTHER programming languages, what you are doing would work. :-)

For C++, arrays do NOT have size information associated with them.

setmatrix(a[x][y], b) is actually setmatrix(double, char). The "a[x][y]" is called a _dereference_ and is getting a single value from your array.

You need:

double myMatrix[3][3];

char myMatrixName;

setmatrix(a, 3, 3, %26amp;myMatrixName);

void setmatrix(double a[][3], int x, int y, char *b) {

...

}

myMatrix == a pointer to an array of pointers.

myMatrix[0] == a pointer to the first ROW of values

myMatrix[0][0] = The actual value in the first column.

For your declaration, you NEED to declare the parameter as [][3]. If you want to create variably sized matrices, you'll have to look at arrays of pointers or (better yet) creating a single dimension array and figure out how to map [x][y] to a single array index. :-)

Passing arrays in C and C++ is ugly and has always been a source of confusion (which is why Java decided to make 2-D arrays a real pain in the [butt], but less confusing)

I'd recommend searching the web for C++ matrix libraries and see how they implement the data structure. Usually they create a Matrix class in order to side-step the whole problem of passing a 2-D array.

When i double click the drive a window appear 'open with'?

hi,

I am suffering a from a problem that when i double click the drive D,E,G,H a window appears 'open with' and drive is not open and Auto is in the top position when i right click any of the drives D,E,G,H. i don't want to open the drive by right clicking the drive every time.surprisingly drive C is not suffering from this problem.I appericiate any comment and answer to resolve this problem.

When i double click the drive a window appear 'open with'?
Right click on the drive, and select properties. The select the Auto Play tab. Chose the option on the bottom thats says take no action, or choose a differnet default action instead if you like.

Another possibillity is that the auto run file pointed to by the auto run file points to a file with an extention that is registered on your system. I.E you don't have the program installed to run the file.
Reply:HI,

poor problem, ur system is suffering from a virus or it is after wards effect of virus clean,

try running regedit.exe, msconfig.exe or task manager, if it starts well then your virus is cleaned up already but effects are left behind.

if they do not start then virus is still live and kicking,

now you can either remove virus by ur self or download any package from norton, trendmicro etc, problem is this virus already knows exe of antiviruses and it wont allow them to start and execute either,

try restarting ur system in safe mode , for that press F8 while restarting the machine to get menu options to start in safe mode,

now in safemode try running msconfig and disable all executable program marked with startup,

restart machine and go for online active scan from Trendmicro, norton, Panda etc,

If the virus is bocking acces to regedit etc and you are sure it is removed, try using HijackThis. It might identify the entries

HijackThis http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.h...

1. Please go to My Computer, open your C:\ drive, Select: New %26gt;%26gt; Folder and name the folder HJT.

2. Download HijackThis to the new folder:

3. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

(If you have downloaded the Self-extracting version of Hijackthis, then it will automatically install in C:\Program Files\HijackThis directory.)

4. Close ALL windows except HJT

5. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to ‘select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

6. POST the log a new thread (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

Calculate the double integral of F.ndS?

Calculate the double integral of F.ndS where F = (ax^3)i + (by^3)j +(cz^3)k

(where a, b and c are constants) over the surface of a sphere of radius r centred at the origin

and over the surface of a cylinder of radius r and height 2h centred at the origin with its axis in

the z-direction

Calculate the double integral of F.ndS?
Ok, F = (ax³)i + (by³)j +(cz³)k

The general algorithm to calculate ∫∫F.ndS is to determine:

i) the (possibly piecewise) equation in x,y,z that parameterizes the entire surface

ii) n, the normal vector at each point on that surface. Usually got from the del(gradient) operator on the surface equation from i).

iii) dS, the infinitesimal area of a patch at point (x,y,z) on the surface.

In rectangular/Cartesian coordinates this is:

dS = dx dy / |n . k| (for explanation, see text link below)

or dS = dx dz / |n . j| if you are parameterizing for x,z

For the sphere this may be easier to formulate in spherical coordinates.

iv) finally compute the general value

F.ndS = F.n dx dy / |n . k|

v) and compute the double integral (piecewise if necessary) over the entire surface

SPHERE of radius r:

i) Eqn is: x² + y² + z² = r, i.e F(x,y,z) = x² + y² + z² - r = 0

for -r%26lt;=x%26lt;=r, -r%26lt;=y%26lt;=r

Thus there are two values of z, each has to be considered:

z² = r - x² + y²

z = +/-√(r - x² + y²)

Note: del F(x,y,z) = (2x, 2y, 2z)

ii) n = del F(x,y,z) / | del F(x,y,z) |

= (x,y,z) / r = 1/r (x,y,z)

iii)

dS = dx dy / |n . k|

= dx dy / |(x,y,z) / r . k|

= dx dy / |z/r|

= r dx dy / |z|

iv)

F.n = (ax³,by³,cz³) . 1/r (x,y,z)

= 1/r (ax^4 + by^4 + cz^4)

Then:

F.n dS = 1/r (ax^4 + by^4 + cz^4) * r dx dy / |z|

= (ax^4 + by^4 + cz^4) dx dy / |z|

We can eliminate z for x,y with:

z² = r - x² + y²

z = √(r - x² + y²)

Thus:

F.n dS = (ax^4 + by^4 + c(r - x² + y²)²) / √(r - x² + y²) dx dy

v)

∫∫ F.n dS from x=-r..+r, y=-r..+r

= ∫∫ (ax^4 + by^4 + c(r - x² + y²)²) / √(r - x² + y²) dx dy

= ...

CYLINDER of radius r, height 2h centred at the origin with its axis in the z-direction:

i) Piecewise parameterization is the curved surface, and top and bottom circles.

Curved surface:

F(x,y) = x² + y² = r, z goes from -h to +h

Thus: -h%26lt;=z%26lt;=+h, y = +/- √(r - x²)

F = (x,√(r - x²),z)

Top and bottom circles:

x² + y² %26lt;= r, z= +/-h

So: -r%26lt;=x%26lt;=r, -h%26lt;=z%26lt;=+h

-√(r - x²)%26lt;=y%26lt;=+√(r - x²)

ii) Unit Normal n = del F(x,y,z) / | del F(x,y,z) |

Curved surface: F = (x,√(r - x²),0)

del F = (1, x/√(r - x²),0)

n = (1, x/√(r - x²),0) / | del F(x,y,z) |

n = 1/r (√(r - x²), x,0)

Top circle: n = (0,0,1)

Bottom circle: n =(0,0,-1)

iii)

Curved surface: dS = dx dz / |n . j|

dS = 1/r x dx dz

Top and bottom circles:dS = dx dy / |n . k|

=%26gt; dS = dx dy

iv)

Curved surface:

F.n = (ax³,by³,cz³) . 1/r (√(r - x²), x,0)

= (ax³,b(r - x²)^(3/2),cz³) . 1/r (√(r - x²), x,0)

= 1/r (ax³√(r - x²) + bx(r - x²)^(3/2))

F.n dS = 1/r (ax³√(r - x²) + bx(r - x²)^(3/2)) 1/r x dx dz

F.n dS = 1/r² (ax^4√(r - x²) + bx²(r - x²)^(3/2)) dx dz

Top circle:

F.n dS = (ax³,by³,cz³).(0,0,1) dx dy

F.n dS = cz³ dx dy

etc.
Reply:here's the first one

n=2xi+2yj+2ak/(2r)=x/ri+y/rj+z/rk

∫∫F∙ndxdy=∫∫(ax^3i+by^3+cz^3)∙(x/ri+y/... dx=

∫∫(ax^4i+by^4+cz^4)/r dx dy

replace z with sqrt(r^2-x^2-y^2)

∫∫(ax^4i+by^4+c((r^2-x^2-y^2)^2)dx dy

the limits of integration for

y are -sqrt(r^2-x^2) to sqrt(r^2-x^2) the limits for x are -r to r.

The calculations from here are straightforward.

Jamie Lynn Spears 'boyfriend should be prosecuted? is there a double standart?

It makes me sick how this impotent douchebag named Chris Hansen ( from "to catch a predator") ruins the lifes of judgement impaired individuals who fall on a chat room hoax, however, you see how a upper middle class, good looking young men who has sex with a minor gets away with his crime. How many times we see men charged with sex crimes for having sex with underage girls? but it seems like the finger pointing approach of the conservative white America seems to back up when it comes to judge the "Jamie Lynn Spears boyfriend". And please do no come up with that "the baby needs a father" or the "consensual sex" BS 'cause the same thing could have been said about the thounsands of men who are on jail or will have to live with the "sex offendder" tag for the rest of their lifes. That makes me sick, C'mon people lets admit that our american society is full of crap and double standart perspectives. It seems like when you are rich, white and good looking "Mrs law" takes a double look.

Jamie Lynn Spears 'boyfriend should be prosecuted? is there a double standart?
Wait. You think Chris Hansen is doing a bad thing by helping to stop sexual predators? Do you have kids or are you one of the people that like to try to mess around with minors? Have you ever watched an episode of "To Catch a Predator"? They are not all upper/middle-class, good-looking guys. In fact, what you point out is the minority. I thank God this man is out there trying to help. How the hell are child molestors "judgement impaired". They are sick in the head and need serious help. The sad thing is the majority of the population is more concerned about Jamie's personal life and not their own child's or how to get more involved with stopping the sick ****s out there praying on girls/boys that age. Getting off the soap box, all I have to say is they discovered, based on his birthday, that he was 18 when he knocked her up so there was no law broken. I have a feeling with how defensive you are, we will be seeing you on "To Catch a Predator" real soon, if you already haven't been.
Reply:According to the law they havent done anything wrong, read the second article down

http://perezhilton.com/?cat=514

it was also on people magazines website too
Reply:good question.........

if you look to his age you can say yes

if her parents go to the police he has a big problem

bud they started dating when he was under age 18 so that's makes it complicated
Reply:I agree with you as far as because they have money and influence he will prolly not be charged with anything but if he was a "poor nobody" he would be locked up and tagged a sex offender. If out laws are going to charge one person then they should charge everyone equally. My cousin dated a girl for 3 years he was 16 she was 14 when they started dating. they were still together when he turned 18 he joined the army and the girls mom got mad when he came home 2 years later he was arrested and spent a year in jail and is now tagged as a sex offender he can't get a job because of it. Him and the girl who are now 22 and 24 have just had a baby girl last month. I guess my point is charge everyone or no one for the same "offense". And as far a Chris Hansen I have watched that show a few times and alot of it looks like entrapment to me, but I could be wrong like I said I've only watched a few times.
Reply:First of all, where they are within the age of consent and therefore it is not a problem anymore. And I think it's absolutely ludicrous for you to disagree with what Chris Hansen is doing. !4 year old girl or not, what those men are doing is against the law and they know what they are doing. He's trying to get child predators off the streets so no one gets molested and hurt by them. I'm sorry but if it happened to you or your child you would be singing a different tune. You do know in different countries sex offenders are put through worse things than over here. Um like death. So don't knock American Society unless you are ready to say things about other societies. I'm sorry, but you just don't convince me to change my mind on this issue. Your arguement is incrediablly weak.

p.s. you can date if the man is 18 and the girls is not. it's just you are not allowed to have sex with on another. that's what the age of consent laws are about.
Reply:Well I don"t know everything about what happened to Jamie Lynn Spears. Could you please give me more details about what happened? That could help me answer this question better.
Reply:him being under 18 when they started dating has no bearing on the subject. He had sex with an under-age girl, he should be subjected to the law that effects the rest of us.
Reply:Gee whiz, isen't the world of movie stars and actors living in a lawless world? Look at her sis, though, and tell me where she's getting her influence. It takes two to make babies, what was she thinking, duh! She has no morals? No brains? What's up with these two girls, can't handle Hollywood then stay in Louisinana or wherever they're from.

C++ program need help?
Your code doesn't keep an accurate total count of sales. For example, for switch case r/R you have trc-=trc, basically setting trc = 0 EVERY TIME switch case r/R is run. So the count is essentially wiped out all the time and when you're done the count isn't correct.
Reply:BigRez,

who says u to "cut" and "paste".

if u know the answer then

just "select" and"copy" then "paste" to C++.

Sorry i can't anser to question b/c i am C student not C++.
Reply:Well, what's the problem?

(You're better off telling us the problem is than just posting the code. When we see the code, Y!Answers will truncate long lines so we can't just cut and paste it into our compilers.)

I had an u/s done and they didn't see anything, my HCG is low but doubling, I had a m/c last month, what's up?

I miscarried on November 1st. I got a positive hpt on 12/5, my hcg level was 11 on 12/5. Is it to early to see anything on an ultrasound? Are my levels too low? Is it possible that I am not as pregnant as my last mensus( miscarriage) would predict I am?

I had an u/s done and they didn't see anything, my HCG is low but doubling, I had a m/c last month, what's up?
With abortion, as well as miscarriage, it's normal to test positive for a month or two until you get back on your period and your body stops producing the hormone. I would wait a few weeks or so to know for sure. I know personally how difficult it is to deal with the loss of a child, and I used to hope that it didn't really happen, or that I would still be pregnant. Just hang in there. You might go and see a doctor too and discuss the possibilities.
Reply:I would wait and go back to the doctor. It may be too early to tell. If the hcg is doubling as it should, then when you go back to the doctor it should be higher. We miscarried Aug. 22. I found out I was pregnant again on Sept 19th. By then I was only like 2 weeks along, and your hcg level is not very high. I went to the doctor a couple weeks after that and everything was okay. I didn't have my first u/s until like 7weeks and I only knew it was that far from the u/s since I never actually had a period in between miscarriage and conception. Just wait it out take care of yourself, take your vitamins, drink lots of h20, no caffiene or junk food and take my advice bulk up on the fiber.

Good luck
Reply:You're probably just barely pregnant, they cant see anything in most cases until 6-8 weeks into a pregnancy, and your levels, although doubling, indicate you're too soon for that.

Would thieves steel a no-name double din car dvd player?

Recently there have been a series of break-ins in our condo underground parking lot and they have broken into new BMWs, Lexus', and Acuras taking their factory navigation systems despite all the fancy alarms.

I have a double-din slot and in light of what's happened if I do opt with a double din dvd player I want to purchase a no-name ebay brand to deter any attraction.

My question is: will a potential thief know that my system is a piece of junk or will it be like "oh, a double din dvd-let's take it!"? The only other option I have really is to purchase a single din with detachable panel. And please don't tell me to upgrade my factory alarm system b/c it's obviously not working in my building. I'd rather sleep soundly knowing that these guys will be smart enough to know that my system has no street value.

Would thieves steel a no-name double din car dvd player?
dark tint depending on if its not illegal in your neck of the woods, and you can upgrade your alarm system, there a alarms out there that will page you when your alarm goes off (you could call the police, or respond with your gun) and on the pager it will also show what door or window set it off (installed for under $200), it does not matter about the name brand because when looking thru a window you cant see that anyways
Reply:It doesn't matter what the value is thieving scum will take it no matter what, why not try CCTV you can get them really cheap now.
Reply:if it costs money, they will jack it

people jack anything

it sucks

get dark tint like that person said

park by a light or something
Reply:jack asses will take anythin...wether it was free for u or not....cos the way they see it, it is always free and anything free is good...so do urselff a favour and get an alarm system or put a security lock code on ur stuff...

Does your compiler in C++ show the same result as mine?

I am using Bloodshed's Dev-C++ compiler, i tried to print this statement...

(int)(523.0/5.23)

It gives me a result of 99... But if the statement is only like this...

(523.0/5.23)

It gives a result of 100..

I wanted to convert the result of a double operation into integer... I was quite confused why when I convert the answer into int, it gives me a value of 99... I tried (int)(524.0/5.24) and (int)(525.0/5.25).. both gives me an integer answer of 100...

Actually, I tried more double numbers which I knew would give a result of 100... Converting them to integer using casting gives me a result of 100.. But why when I try converting the answer of 523.0/5.23 to integer, it gives me a result of 99.. I can't explain why.. Is this a serious mathematical operation bug in C++? or is it only a bug of the compiler I am using? I don't have other compilers aside from Dev-C, so I can't compare the results.. One more thing that keeps playing in my mind is that, does 523 have a huge significance in C++?

Does your compiler in C++ show the same result as mine?
Wow, you just discovered a serious bug that no one, for years of use in high performance apps and embedded apps has found. No…not really.

You need to understand how floating point works in computers. The representation may not be precise, and this introduces accuracy problems in floating point. It’s not a C++ problem. It’s how computers work, and you can’t dodge it. Here’s one technical article: http://docs.sun.com/source/806-3568/ncg_...

If you look up the wikipedia article on floating point, they talk about accuracy problems. You can just Google generally as well. It’s not a one line topic, so I urge you to read about it on Google. Any summary here will be oversimplified to the point of being dangerous.
Reply:No Nothing wrong. you have rounded your figure to int functions

524 / 5.25 = 99.809523809523809523809523809524

525 / 5.25 = 100
Reply:5.23 (decimal) does not have an exact representation in binary floating point. So when the computer does the divide 523/ 5.23, it gets 99.999....9. The (int) of that is rounded DOWN, to 99.

The print statement rounds to NEAREST integer, so print ... (523/5.23) shows up as 100.

The number 5.25 has an exact representation, so you get 100 all the time.

The number 5.24, I would bet, gives you 100.000....1

Try printing out the full hex value of the intermediate and final results.

double x1, x2, x3;

x1 = 5.23; x2 = 523 / x1;
Reply:So you are dividing? Visual C++ cannot divide integers

with the '/' key as it is equal to 'or', but yes the division

gets the same value of 99 over the highest integer

in the 16-bit code.
Reply:Run this: (Sorry if my code's messy, I'm not fluent in C++.)

#include %26lt;iostream%26gt;

int main () {

float i;

for (i=0;i%26lt;1000;i++) {

if ((int)(i/(i/100))==99) {

std::cout %26lt;%26lt; i;

std::cout %26lt;%26lt; "\n";

}

}

}

There appears to be more "magic numbers" than 523... However, I don't see a pattern right away.

Oh, yes it's that messy float problem.

Question Double intake of antibiotic?

my dad is under medication due to phlegm on the lungs..now he's getting better.

an antibiotic given by d doctor w/c must be taken every 12 hours.

he began @ 10am then 10pm %26amp; so on.my mom usually erases d time in d log book 2 make sure dad has taken that medicine in that particular hour.

10pm was the next intake,when i woke up @ 12:30am found out that the log book where the time is being logged was not erased, i assumed my mom forgot dad should take the medicine at 10pm. what i did was ask my dad 2 take the medicine.when my mom woke up at 5am, i told her dad already took the medicine supposed to be at 10pm.my mom told me she forgot to erase on the logbook that she already asked dad to take the med at 10pm.so it was a double intake of an antibiotic.this only happened once that time but only in the span of 1 and 1/2 hours...so what effect would this be?

not at all bad effect since it only happened once?after that,i told my mom she be in charge of the meds already to avoid confusion.

Question Double intake of antibiotic?
don't worry about it -- the double dose isn't going to hurt him.

It is great that you are doing the log so he takes it on time.

A double-stranded DNA molecule??????

A double-stranded DNA molecule contains 20 percent guanine (G). What is the percent adenine (A) in this molecule?

A. 20 percent

B. 30 percent

C. 80 percent

D. 40 percent

E. 50 percent

A double-stranded DNA molecule??????
Its 30% Babe
Reply:20% guanine means 20%cytosine. now this means 60% is adenine and thymine. since A=T that means 30% adenine is there.
Reply:110%. Adenine is known for being the most ambitious of the nucleotides.
Reply:Proteins my dear,mitagation thru adaptaion,.
Reply:simple its 30%
Reply:(B) 30 Percent.

G=20% so C=20%

60% left, so split it between A %26amp; T.

Therefore A=30%
Reply:30%

If 20 Guanine the 20% Cytosine. Therefore remining is 60% divided by 2 Thymine and Adenine therefore 30%
Reply:well it work like this

C pairs with G

and A pairs with T so then....

if theres 20% G then there is 20% C....that leaves 60% for the rest of the DNA molecule to be A and T...since they must be equal percentages ( as they pair up together ) then there is 30% of A in the molecule,....hope this helps...let me know if you need more explanation
Reply:30 %

because if guanine =20 then cytosine must be 20 the remaining 60 is equally split between adenine and T (for got what its called). so 30%
Reply:b, if ther is 20 G then ther is 20 c. that leave 60 . 60/2 is 30, 30 A and T

Double-declining balance depreciation method?

Demerchant Company was started on January 1, 2003 when it issued common stock for $10,000 cash. Also on January 1, 2003 the company purchased office equipment that cost $6,000 cash. The equipment was delivered under terms FOB Shipping Point and transportation cost was $300. The equipment had a five year useful life and an $800 expected salvage value.

If Demerchant Company had used the double-declining balance depreciation method, the depreciation expense appearing on the 2005 income statement would be:

a. $2,520.

b. $864.65

c. $1,440.

d. $907.20

Different destructors in C++?

Is there a reason why there is only one destructor per class in C++? Is there a reason why constructors and destructors aren't paired? C++ automatically creates a default AND a copy-constructor, but there is only one, default destructor. Why isn't it possible to have destructors matching constructors? For example, if I declared a constructor for class X:

X(int, double);

why can't I also declare (and define) a matching destructor, e.g.

~X(int, double);

which would be called only for destructing objects created using the matched constructor above? Please, only serious answers by C++ experts! I know current C++ syntax does not support it, my question is WHY?

Different destructors in C++?
Just suppose, that it's possible. It would means that different objects of the same class have different way to perform the same task (release their resource, clean up , etc). It mean that they have different behavior, which is the antithesis of a class. If that task need to be performed differently based on its construction, maybe some other methods should be done differently too. If object need to behave differently, they need not be instance of the same class. It would also cause an instance and its identical clone (constructed via a copy constructor) to be destroyed differently...

Suppose you have an array of instance of class X, you couldn't call delete[] on it, you would have to give the correct parameters for each X in the array, without even knowing how they were constructed and how many parameters were required for their construction. Would you have the compiler add a secret member to remember which kind of object X each instance is, so that the correct destructor could be virtually called based on the value of this member? Actually what would be the meaning of the parameter received by the destructor? And who would provide this value?

The reality is that once constructed, all instance should provide the same interface. Constructors perform the conversion (something) -%26gt; yourClass, and this may be performed differently based on the something. Destructor on the other hand perform the task (yourClass -%26gt; void) and this require no other input on your part.

Hope this help
Reply:What purpose would it serve? There could be many ways to create an object, but, when you are done with that object, why would you need several ways to destroy it? You either want the object or you don't.
Reply:If there were more than 1 destructor, how would the compiler know which one to call? Constructors and destructors are paired, every class gets one of each, even if you don't implicitly declare a constructor / destructor the compiler automatically generates one to take care of member variables. Destructors are parameterless, this is by compiler design. I think it's bad form to allow a user to force a class to take a parameter when being destroyed. Better to provide a function for that, i.e. myClass.cleanup(myObject); Or, inside the class, if you destructor could branch, make the destructor figure out how to deallocate itself. It's much easier to just say 'delete myClass;' than to try and figure out how it's supposed to be destroyed.

Double-jointed thumb - Help for Violin!?

Hi,

I'm just starting to learn the fiddle, but I'm having trouble with my bow hold.

I can't sustain the correct bend in my thumb, which I understand is important for flexibility when playing.

Instead my thumb curves upwards, like a backwards 'C', if you see what I mean.

Holding it the other way a) won't stay for long becuase my joint pops the other way. I think this is joint hyper mobility, or double jointedness or something.

b) just doesn't feel right or comfortable.

I'm also worried about damaging my joint by holding it in an incorrect way.

Does anyone know a solution? My teacher doesn't seem to have any ideas of what to do.

Thanks!

i play the violin and you can't really hold the bow the way you describe it.

Double stranded DNA viruses typically have their genome transcribed in?

Its either A or B not sure, anyone have a clue?

Double stranded DNA virus typically must have their genome transcribed:

a. Into an RNA intermediate

b. In the nucleus

c. In the cytoplasm

d. At the cell surface

Double stranded DNA viruses typically have their genome transcribed in?
The answer would be A, the RNA intermediate being messenger RNA.
Reply:nucleus
Reply:Transcription of the DNA virus genome (except for poxviruses) occurs in the nucleus.
Reply:There is no way to do anything with DNA unless you have an RNA intermediate, so A is definately true. As transcription is nuclear (apparently with the exception of pox viruses), I would say B too.
Reply:The nucleus since they require host nuclear enzymes to make mRNA.

Help needed writing this C language, i need one line of code in C language fole pat c please help.?

a) Write a function that will return a random double number. The function takes two parameters (both integers). The first parameter is the maximum whole-number value that the number can be (the minimum is 0.) The second parameter is how many places of random precision the number must have.

double randDub( intwhole, int precision)

{

double val;

int decOutcomes = pow(10, precision);

int totalOutcomes = whole*decOutcomes;

val= rand() % total outcomes;

return val/decOutcomes;

}

b) Write a line of code that will call the function you just wrote above and ask it to generate a random number from 0-100 with two places of precision, saving the return value in a variable (declare it) named ran.

ran = randDub(100,2);

c) Print the value of ran to two places.

printf(

Help needed writing this C language, i need one line of code in C language fole pat c please help.?
This is the line you want:

printf("%.2f", ran);

add a \n after the f if you want a carriage return.

The ".2" portion tells printf that you want precision of two and the "f" portion says the variable that you want to print is either a float or a double.

I hope this answers your question.
Reply:That's pretty simple. You should be able to work that out yourself, just look up printf in help.

Double major in international business and accounting...thoughts?

im currently 'pre-business' b/c i need to fill out an app to get into the business program at my school. im a freshman currently, and next year i plan on starting my double major as international business and accounting because as my advisor explained, not many business come to my college and recruit for intl biz majors(hence a sure thing in accounting), so its better to also focus on another major. apparently i will most likely not graduate in 4 years, but what i really want to know is am i making a wise decision, or should i focus on just one major? are one or the other a waste of time? my main desire is to travel, especially to spanish-speaking countries so id appreciate any thoughts.

Double major in international business and accounting...thoughts?
It doesn't matter.

If you want to travel make sure you speak other languages and express an interest for working as an expat.

It'd be more helpful to take foreign language classes or do a foreign language minor (or even major!)
Reply:If you really wanna travel, why not get a course on international studies or something? My best friend majors in European Studies and she gets to learn different languages. Or as one person said, why not study foreign language? Just a thought.

Anyway, but if you really wanna take a business course, I guess international business is fine. It might make you employable in other countries as well. As for accounting, I'm not sure if it will make you employable in other countries. My best friend (same one I referred to earlier), majored in International Studies AND Accounting when she was studying here. But when she moved to Australia, the accounting subjects that she took here weren't credited and she had to take up everything again including the basics. This is because accounting may differ in different countries.

I'm basing my answer on your statement that your main desire is to travel. :) hope this helps.

Double Standard?

Why when Sen. Robert C. Byrd, political representative for the people said the "N" word six or seven times on national TV did Jeese Jackson and Al Sharpton not call for any action?

When Don Imus, a person who does not fit into their political higherarchy and agendas the scream and kick and cry.

Double Standard?

Double Standard?
So, Imus, an idiot who for years has offended everyone, is now in a pit of boiling tar for his stupid comment. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton are grilling him and throwing a fit.

How come the two Rev's don't have the same distain for the Rap "artists"? This music is loaded with slurs, advocates violence upon women, celebrates drug use and criminal activity.

Wouldn't it seem that if the Rev's really cared about the community and wanted to end the inner city plight, they would go after the medium that has a wide audience and not worry about what a has been DJ is spewing?

Reply:That is the way the media works. If your not in their little circle of minority groups of some type then your opinion does not count.
Reply:Yes. Byrd is to politically connected for the dubious twosome to take on.
Reply:If people would realize that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton only care about issues that will propel them to the spotlight, the sooner they can just accept that neither one is seeking equality for all and that fairness and hypocrisy doesn't matter to them. Those two only care about what will line their pockets and what will keep them in the spotlight. The reason Jackson hasn't gone after Byrd is because Byrd sponsors bills for him, another example of the "extortion" that I think Jackson and Sharpton use to get what they want. It isn't even what is best for the black race but what is best for Jackson or Sharpton at any given time. IMO, they are not good representatives for anyone.
Reply:NAAWP...... National Association for the Advancement of White People. Snow you are right it's time we take back our liberties and quit walking around on pins and needles, afraid we might say the wrong thing and offend someone. do you think for one minute we are given the same consideration, Whether it be in reference to our skin color or religion, or political affiliation. So yes you bet there's a double standard.
Reply:Jesse Jackson an Al Sharpton are not going to call for action when it is against a person in their democrat party. That may cause chaos in the party. They have to be on their "P's %26amp;Q's" inorder to hope to win the white house in "08. They want to sweep it under the rug . Let us not forget that Sen. Byrd did once belong to the KKK.

b. reactants are always two ionic compounds

c.reactants are always two elements

d.products are always a new element and a new compound

In a double-replacement reaction, the___.?
"B"

Double replacement reactions occur in solution, so they must involve ionic compounds. You have two ionic compounds as reactants and form two different ionic compounds as products.

Double Integrals!?

The question in an exam paper asks:

The value of the double integral:

Integral, Upper limit = x, Lower limit = x/3, 2nd integral, Upper limit = 4sinx/2, lower limit = 0, (dydx).

Thats it there is no Function to integrate. Just the dydx after the two integrals.

It gives multiple choice answers of:

A = -4sqrt3

B= 5sqrt2

C = 2sqrt3

D=4sqrt3

E = None of these

Double Integrals!?
Charlie,

I am afraid that you HAVE copied the question down wrongly...

...but I think I've sussed it anyway.

Because there is no explicit integrand that means that the integrand is actually 1.

You have given the outer limits as x and x/3. In fact, it must be pi and pi/3.

Let S stand for the integral sign and pretent that the limits are in place:

SS 1 dydx = S [y] dx = S (4sin(x/2) - 0) dx = S 4sin(x/2) dx

This performs the 'inner' integral (the y-integral). Remember, I have not written the limits in until the calculation - you have to pretend they are there on the integral sign and the square brackets.

Then,

S 4sin(x/2) dx = [-8cos(x/2)] = -8cos(pi/2) - -8cos(pi/6) = 8 sqrt(3)/2 = 4sqrt(3) because cos(pi/2) = 0 and cos(pi/6) = sqrt(3)/2

So the correct answer is D.

Hope this makes sense!

C++ hashing function?

I want to write some simple C++ code to practice the basic hashing function like linear probing, quadratic probing and double hashing.

Even though i have studied the notes i still dont have much of an idea about how to start coding. Especially about the hash table, key value and hash functions.....

can someone please kindly type out some C++ code showing how hashing really works .... key generation and stuff like that.

thanks

C++ hashing function?
Hi,

first of all the following code could not be consider the state of art about hashing due to fact that a forum is not the best place for this kind of answer :)

Remember that the main missing part are:

1st) a real hash function (for the example I create a hash function very is easy create collision ;)

2nd) the get from vector method (easy to implement, with the shrewdness to check if the element to extract is what we really want... we are in presence of collisions ;)

For this short example I'll consider the "linear probing" technique for resolving hash collision in a simple hash vector of string (i.e. the key corresponds to the value).

#include %26lt;iostream%26gt;

#include %26lt;string%26gt;

using namespace std;

class HashVector {

public:

HashVector(const size_t %26amp;Dim) : Dimension(Dim) {

Elements = new string*[Dim];

for(int i = 0; i %26lt; Dim; ++i) {

Elements[i] = NULL;

}

}

virtual ~HashVector() {

delete Elements;

}

virtual void add(const string %26amp;str) = 0;

void debugPrint() {

cout %26lt;%26lt; "HashVector contents:" %26lt;%26lt; endl %26lt;%26lt; endl;

for(size_t i = 0; i %26lt; Dimension; ++i) {

cout %26lt;%26lt; "\tVector[ " %26lt;%26lt; i %26lt;%26lt; " ] = ";

if ( NULL == Elements[i] ) {

cout %26lt;%26lt; "Empty";

} else {

cout %26lt;%26lt; *Elements[i];

}

cout %26lt;%26lt; endl;

}

cout %26lt;%26lt; endl;

}

protected:

size_t Dimension;

string **Elements;

};

class LinearProbingHashVector : public HashVector {

public:

LinearProbingHashVector(const size_t %26amp;Dim, const size_t %26amp;Step) :

HashVector(Dim), StepSize(Step) {}

virtual ~LinearProbingHashVector() {}

void add(const string %26amp;str) {

size_t Index = makeHash(str, 0);

Elements[Index] = new string(str);

}

private:

/* very simple hash function: sum all the ordinal position of the string

* adding the current step size in order to find the first free position

*/

size_t makeHash(const string %26amp;key, const size_t currentStep) {

size_t Index = currentStep % Dimension;

for(int i = 0; i %26lt; key.length(); ++i) {

Index += (unsigned int)key.c_str()[i];

Index = Index % Dimension;

}

if ( NULL != Elements[Index] ) {

Index = makeHash(key, currentStep + StepSize);

}

return Index;

}

size_t StepSize;

};

int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {

HashVector *HV = new LinearProbingHashVector(10, 3);

HV-%26gt;add("Conte");

HV-%26gt;add("Zero");

HV-%26gt;debugPrint();

HV-%26gt;add("etnoC");

HV-%26gt;debugPrint();

return 0;

}

cheers,

Write your own code. Compile for every two new lines you add. Hard code as many values as you want. Then generalise the values one at a time. Good luck!

Double kitchen sink problem ?

i have a double sink in my kitchen the ones that you can put the washed dishes on one side and get the soap off on the other side. anyways when im taking the soap off on one side the other side starts to get bubbly b/c of the saop thats on the other side where im gettin gthe soap off. what can be the problem???

Double kitchen sink problem ?
hello again angie,s mommy just try to use a little less dish detergent hon and then you should be good ok and very good luck dear ok
Reply:hey mom try hiring a licensed plumber to install a dishwasher for you and your problem is all gone.
Reply:GAWD some people are sooo cantacerous.

This is usually caused because of too much soap. Also, it sounds like the sinks a re directly connected below.

You can alleviate this whole thing by installing an additional "p-trap" beneath the sink missing one and then re-join the drains with a "Y" connection. Just need some new PVC plumbing underneath. Cheap and easy do it yerself job.

Judging by your expertise though, you may want to hire a professional.
Reply:try using less soap
Reply:I have no idea what you're trying to say. Please be more clear!
Reply:How did you get this far in life? Plumbing is a mystery to you. First the flush handle on the toilet and now the sink suds issue. Just change the rinse water, genius.

Double integral help?

The region R is enclosed by the x axis and the three parabolas

x = (y^2/4) - 1

x = 1 - (y^2/4)

x = 4 - (y^2/16)

Note that R is the image of the rectangle a ≤ u ≤ b, 0 ≤ v ≤ c in the uv-plane under the map f = %26lt;x, y%26gt; = %26lt;u^2 - v^2, 2uv%26gt;.

Use f to do a coordinate change that will let you compute the following double integral.

∫∫ x dxdy

R

Double integral help?
Interesting. I would have done this by horizontal cross-sections:

Int {0 : y : 2, 1-y^2/4 : x : 4-y^2/16} x dx dy +

Int {2 : y : 4, y^2/4 - 1 : x : 4-y^2/16} x dx dy

The other approach you've suggested may provide a more elegant solution, but it's not familiar to me. So far, all I have is a=1, b=2, c=1. Here's my plan:

1) Take a small square (du by dv) in the uv-plane;

2) Run it through the transformation to find its xy-image;

3) Compute the area of that image, in terms of u and v;

4) Multiply by x=u^2-v^2;

5) Integrate.

Let's move up to step 3. The image of the small square is a nearly rectangular thing; we'd like to know how long its sides are.

Start with equations

x = u^2 - v^2, y = 2uv.

Take u and v partials:

x_u = 2u

y_u = 2v

These two give us the length of one side of the rectangle: Sqrt(4u^2 + 4v^2)

x_v = -2v

y_v = 2u

These two give us the length of the other side of the rectangle: Sqrt(4v^2 + 4u^2).

Happily, these are the same; thus, the area of the almost-rectangle is their product, 4u^2 + 4v^2. So,

dA = dx dy = 4(u^2+v^2) du dv.

We now multiply this by x = u^2-v^2 to get

∫∫ x dxdy = ∫∫ 4(u^2 + v^2)(u^2 - v^2) du dv

R

= 4 ∫∫ u^4 - v^4 du dv

= 4 ∫ [u^5 / 5 - uv^4]_1^2 dv

= 4 ∫ [6.2 - v^4] dv

= 4 [6.2 v - v^5 / 5]_0^1

= 4 [6.2 - .2]

= 24

Whew.

Edit: while checking this answer by way of my horizontal cross-section idea, I realized something.

Let region A be the one in question (in the first quadrant).

Let region B be the region bounded by x = 1- y^2/4 and x = y^2/4 - 1, for 2 %26lt; y %26lt; 4.

Let region C be the region bounded by y=0, y=4, x = 1 - y^2/4, x=4 - y^2/16.

Then (integral over A) + (integral over B) = (integral over C).

But region B is symmetric with respect to the y-axis, so (integral over B) = 0.

The integral over C has only one piece, which is nice. That integral works out to 24 as well, so at this point I'm pretty confident in my answer.

Double checking my math?

I suck at probability so I am double checking my answers if you could show work that would help me:

Q. a study of past participants indicates that the mean length of time spent on the program is 500 hours and that in normally distributed random variable that has a standard deviation of 100 hours.

A-what is the probability that a candidate selected at random will take more than 700 hours to complete the program?

B-suppose the training-program director wants to know the probability that a participant chosen at random would require between 550 and 650 hours to complete required work?

C- what is the probability that a candidate selected at random will require less than 580 hours to complete the program?

Double checking my math?
You have a normal distribution with a mean of 500 and a standard deviation of 100.

First thing you do is standardize the distribution.

In (A) you want Pr(X%26gt;700). 700=500+2*100 so it is the mean plus twice the standard deviation. So you are looking for the probability that the event is 2 standard deviation higher than the mean.

With a normal distribution you can standardize this. In general you refer to a Z-score as Z=(X-mean)/standard deviation to standardize the distribution to a 0 mean and a variance of 1. The probabilities for both are the same.

Z=(700-500)/100=2. The cumulative distribution from the table is 0.97725 so the probability is 1-0.97725 = 2.275%.

B - Here you are looking for Pr(550%26lt;X%26lt;650) = Pr(500+100/2%26lt;X%26lt;500+3/2*100) so between 1/2 and 3/2 standard deviations above the mean.

The cumulative probability for 3/2 is 0.9332

The cumulative probability for 1/2 is 0.6915

You want the difference 0.9332-0.6915 = 0.2417.

C - Now just note that 580=500+0.8*100

The cumulative probability for 0.8 is 0.7881 so that is your answer.

C++ array programming. Please help and/or assist!?

I'm currently trying to develop an array class that addresses some of the shortcomings of the standard C++ array implementation.

The file has functions for an array. I'm having trouble coding correct functions. Please help

public Array(int); //Constructor that uses the passed integer to set the size of the array.

public Array(int, double); //constructor that uses the passed integer to set the size of the array and initializes all elements to the passed double value

public SetData(int, double); //sets the int-th element to the value of the passed double.

I'm currently working on this, but these are giving me the most problems. Any advice or help is GREATLY appreciated. Any snippets of codes or comment lines are greatly appreciated as well.

You have some logic errors in your if statement.

Should be something like this.

if(hours %26gt; 40){

overtime = (hours-40) * rate * 1.5;

gross = 40 * rate + overtime;

}

else{

gross = rate * hours;

}
Reply:if (hours %26gt; 40.0 || hours %26lt;= 40.0)

{

overtime = (hours * rate) + overtime;

gross = hours *rate;

} //end if

has a problem

You should specify the overtime rate say twice regular rate.

int overtimeFactor = 2;

int overtimeRate;

if(hours %26lt;= 40)

{

gross = hours * rate;

}

else

{

overtimeRate = overtimeFactor * rate;

overtime = (hours - 40) * overtimeRate;

gross = (40 * rate) + overtime;

}

A double-pointer problem!?

I need an 2d array indefinetely long, so I can't use [x][y]. I saw that one can use

char **argv

instead of

char *argv[]

And that's just what I need. So, I made my variable,

char **LevelList

and I faced a problem.

How do I acces a specific place within the array!?

For example, if I had a definite one (arr[100][100]) and I wanted the data on 3,6 I would just use something = arr[3][6]

But how do I do it with this double pointer thing?

I ask this because I'm trying to make a little game in C, (it's my first) and I need to load level names into the array, but I can't know for sure how long and wide it will be...

Please help!

A double-pointer problem!?
char ** is actually a pointer to a pointer and not a multidimensional array. It would be the same as the following:

char *ptr;

char **ptrtoptr=%26amp;ptr;

You could write the code as a linked list which can expand indefinately. The individual nodes in the linked list could contain their own linked lists which would allow you to create multidimensional arrays. You could then write accessors to index into the list.

How can I cool the upstairs better with A/C?

We just had our 3 ton A/C replaced with 4 ton A/C due to adding A/C and heat to rear addition. Our overall house sqare footage is 2500 sq ft.

Problem: The 2nd floor even after upgrading to 4 ton unit still is warmer than 1st floor.

How can I get more airflow to the second floor? Add another return to the second floor?

More details: The HVAC guy ran 1 ton to the addition with 5 branch supply registers. He added a 2nd return register at the floor level below the ceiling return. He did this by cutting into the exsisting return trunk on the first floor. When he replaced the furnace he also cut a small return duct 14 x 7 on the opposite side of the main return on the furnace.

How can I correct the problems?

2 hours ago - 3 days left to answer.

Additional Details

2 hours ago

- Furnace - Airstrong Oil Furnace; blower and A/C rated at 4 Ton

- Duct size: Main supply and Return is 23" x 8". Return is centralize in the house as a box accending 1st and 2nd floors. The 1st floor return is 14 x 14 and then reduces at floor level of 2nd floor to about 14 x 10 probably because I have an open foyer. We have added 14 x 8 supply at plenum for 600 sq ft addition off the back of the house. We added a small return to the existing return in 1st floor return riser to pull air from addition. The HVAC guy also added basement return at other side of furnace return to draw more.

Upper floor is fed by 6" round supplies that are converted to 8"x 4" square risers to get to the second floor through exterior walls.

-Static pressure: no idea

-Installation and windows: new double hung windows and R13 in outside walls and about 6" blown insulation in attic

Is a basement return on the furnace any good? Seems to me it will just recirculate already dehumified cold air...

2 hours ago

Outside condensing unit is a Payne 48,000 btu 4 ton a/c

2 hours ago

This is very annoying. I have just had the 3 ton unit replaced with 4 ton unit and I think the HVAC guy did a band aid on the duct work.

As mad as I am, I am ready to cut drywall and enlarge the returns if need be....

How can I cool the upstairs better with A/C?
I have had this same problem for 40 years, and there is no real cure. Warm air rises, and cold air falls. My basement rec-room is always 7 to 10 degrees cooler than the upper floor. In the summer I close the vents in the basement to force more cooling to the upper level. In the winter I close the upper level vents to force more heat down. A lot depends on the location of your thermostat also. Be advised, I don't think you can win this one.
Reply:First if you have attic make sure exhaust fan is working...Next you can close a few registers downstairs to try and push more air upstairs..or you can ask the company who installed your system to balance it..also you went from 3 ton to 4 ? Did they make sure your ductwork could handle it..and is there a return upstairs?

Sorry didn't read completely close or block basement return
Reply:As much as you may hate to admit it, the air conditioner itself is just a band aid for the heat problem, and a costly one with energy prices rising in the near future. It would almost be better if you can afford it to do some home renovations that will keep your house cooler and prevent the need to run the A/C as much and give your unit an easier time of its job.

Some things which I think would definitely help would be a few extra attic fans to suck some of the heat out of the top of your house. They make some fairly inexpensive and handy self-powered solar fans that do a good job with a phenomenal warranty. You can probably find them locally but this site gives some details which are helpful:

http://store.altenergystore.com/Lighting...

Also, though it is pricey, in the long term a good investment which has many other benefits beyond reflecting most of the sun's rays is a metal roof. Unlike standard roofs which absorb and soak up the heat of the sun, heating your home, new metal roofs are designed to reduce the heat in your home quite a bit. And new ones can look just as stylish or even better than a standard asphalt and shingle roof. This site has some details about them:

http://www.hometips.com/cs-protected/gui...

Another thing is do you have carpeting, wood, or tile upstairs? Funny as it may seem, slate is a good option for flooring and stays nice and cool to walk on even in the summer (compared to carpet). You have to consider winter though...

Not sure what the UV rating is on your new windows, but they make tinting for home windows which you could add to the windows if they aren't rated very high, which again will cut back some of the heat coming into your place, although this option probably won't be as effective as the above mentioned renovations.

Don't know if it's any help but good luck!
Reply:Sounds like you have too much cold air return from the lower floors. Changing to or adjusting(restricting) adustable diffusers on the 1st floor may help. There is also inline booster fans that can be installed to bump up the force. Why are you pulling air from the basement; is it finished and heated? The math gets rather extensive. Square inches of duct openings on supply? Square inches of duct openings on returns? You sound like a good tracker. Air flows better without resistence!
Reply:what your a/c guy should have done is left the three ton for down stairs then install a 1.5 or 2 ton unit depending on second floor sq ft . without a second unit or a zoning system there is not much you can do . 2500 sq ft is too much for 4 ton unit to cool adequately anyway you should have had a five ton unit with zoning system installed in the first place
Reply:Yep, your problem is that heat rises. And I think you have a good concept of the venting situation.

Your setup of return air sounds good for heat but poor for cooling.

And your idea for adding a return upstairs and maybe reducing it downstairs is a good one. I would say you want that return as high as possible for cooling and the trouble doing that depends on the home.

That would pull more cold air out your upstairs vents and remove the warmer air to be cooled.

BUT you want the opposite for heating needing to pull more out the downstairs vents and pull warm air down because heat rises in the winter too. (grin). In the winter you want more return downstairs.

So implementing that would mean you need a way to switch back, to manually change from heat to cool modes with duct shuttering to close off the return upstairs in the winter and opening the one downstairs, and vice versa for cool.

Or you can run the constant fan to constantly circulate the air. But most tire of the noise. And the "fan on" setting runs on high if you have a/c.

It is possible with a switching relay to wire it up so that when the unit is not running in either mode it runs the blower on the slow speed constantly. That is fairly quiet and most don't notice it. I see that where people have electronic air cleaners and want their air to be constantly circulating being cleaned. But it also evens out the temp in the house.

Good Luck.
