Cant access C drive from My computer?

When I open My Computer and try to double click on C Drive I get a message that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I am the only user on this computer so its definitely not an issue of permission.

Additional Information:

-I use windows XP home

-this is a recent problem and my virus scan comes up clean

-I can still access C drive if I type it directly into the explore bar, just not when I double click on the icon in my computer.

-I can access all other drives but C (ie I can access D drive by double clicking)

Any ideas on what is going on with my computer?

XP – system file checker

====================

System File Checker (SFC). This can also be run in Safe Mode should you prefer.

To run SFC, close all applications such as Office, Messenger, Email, etc, and go to:

- Start

- Run

- Type in sfc /scannow (include the space before the " / ")

What SFC does is that it attempts to fix or replace critical operating system files. Sometimes this can be done without the installation disk; however it may prompt you for the appropriate operating system installation disk. If that is the case, then you know that you definitely have major file corruption or something missing. Insert the disk if prompted. Also you should run SFC using the Administrator account.

After updating files run a windows update
Reply:attempt to access your c drive through the command prompt.

Start/ Run/ type cmd
Reply:go to add/remove windows components, then uninstall the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security component.

otherwise, if your av is trendmicro, you need to talk to them.
Reply:You have a worm.

Install newer version of antivirus and rescan in safe mode.
