Why is DNA a double helix?

i know about Deoxy ribonucleic acid . i know it has pentane and hexane ringed structures of sugars and nucleotides respectively. i know that there are phosphodiester bonds . i knoew that there are c-n bonds. and i wanna know what exactly causes the dna double helical structure . please give the correct information.......!!!!

thanks

Reply:You already know too much about DNA..why want to know more? Are you trying to create some kind of mutant DNA

You could try and ask your parent why don't they give you one DNA strand of helix instead of 2.
Reply:Chemically, the twisting helix for requires the least amount of energy for the molecule. That is why most molecules take the shape that they do.

Biologically, it allows for the two strands to be separated during meiosis so it can be passed on to daughter cells. It also allows DNA to be unzipped so that when a protein is needed, only that section of the strand is exposed and transcribed.
