Should I double-up on my multivitamin when I'm sick?

I have had a cold for three days now. I've been taking the same multivitamin I always take plus a little extra vitamin C. Would it be beneficial for me to just double-up on my multivitamin intake? Why or why not?

If so, should I take both at the same time or at different times during the day?

You need to be careful not to get too much of some vitamins which are toxic in high doses, so be sure to read the label on your multivitamin to determine whether you can safely increase the daily dosage or not. Getting extra vitamin C and a lot of liquids is good too.

You might want to try an immune supplement like Immune Alert which is designed to help improve your body's ability to fight off germs. I know Immune Alert (the active ingredient is an extract from baker's yeast) can be taken in higher doses when you are symptomatic and then taken in the regular dose daily to maintain a healthy immune system.

And don't forget chicken soup -- the old-fashioned tried and true cold remedy.
Reply:Definately not, some vitimins will harm you if you get too much into your system.

Eat more fruits with vitimin C and drink juices with it vitimin C in it like orange juice.

To get rid of a cold you need vitimin C and B12 but a multi vitimin has many more and you could make yourself very ill if you get too much of it.

For example vitimin D if you have too much will do more harm then good, that the vitimin that keeps calcium in your bones and you can also get it from sunlight but too much is not good for you.

Too much iron can cause serious problems too. Just supliment your multi vitimin with C %26amp; B12

Feel better soon!
Reply:Yes, take one in the morn and one in the eve
Reply:no, not necessary. do take more C, though--a lot more, and drink purifying teas like nettle, parsley and dandelion--these will flush all the crud out of your systemn and allow your body to heal itself. lots of water, too--at least 2-3 liters a day.
Reply:Once your sick, your sick. Nothing is going to provide a "cure". Don't bother doubling up on multi vitamins. Vitamin C 4000 to 10,000 mg a day while sick may help speed recovery. You can't overdose vitamin c. Lots of water, chicken soup and keep your body temperature elevated as this is the way your body naturally fights off infection. Unless you have an abnormally high temperature, don't take anything to lower it. Get plenty of rest.
Reply:Don't take more of all vitamins. Take more Vitamin C. It is recommended you take 2000 mg per day of Vit C while you are symptomatic. If you cant get that from your food, then a pill will suffice. Even better you can take Emergen-C two to three times a day.
